PHARMACY FIRST PLUS

See below for details of Pharmacies providing this service.

The service includes the assessment and treatment of acute common clinical conditions which are within the pharmacist independent prescriber’s competency.

Conditions may include but are not limited to:

  • Urinary tract infections (out with the normal scope of the national PGD)
  • Respiratory infections
  • Ear, nose and throat infections
  • Dermatological presentations
  • Allergies
  • Eye infections (in conjugation with local optometry services)

If the pharmacist cannot provide treatment, they will refer to the most appropriate local practitioner.

Please note there may be times that the pharmacist who runs the service is on annual leave. Therefore, no service would be available on those days.

How do I register with the practice?

To register the practice you should complete our registration form. This is attached below if you wish to print this out and complete or there are copies available at our reception. You will need to provide 2 forms of identification – one with your photograph and another with proof of your address. The registration process tends to take 1 week, please ensure you have enough medications from your previous practice to cover this period.

The surgery is closed between 6.00pm and 8.30am Monday to Friday, and 6.00pm Friday to 8.30am Monday, and on public holidays. Out of hours cover is now the responsibility of NHS GG&C – NHS 24. If you require urgent medical attention that cannot wait until the surgery re-opens please contact NHS 24 on 111 or visit their website at www.nhs24.com 

They will either:
Arrange advice from a doctor or nurse.
Invite you to attend the centre to be seen by a clinician.
Arrange a home visit if you are too ill to attend the centre.

Transport to and from the centre is available if you cannot arrange this yourself.

Covid 19 and Seasonal Flu Vaccines

This year, the covid-19 booster and seasonal flu vaccination programmes are being delivered together. Where possible, people who are eligible for both vaccinations will receive one appointment – so they don’t need to attend two appointments within a short period of time.

North Avenue Surgery operates a ‘zero-tolerance’ policy towards aggressive or abusive behaviour. This includes any personal, abusive or threatening comments, bad language, physical contact and aggressive gestures. In keeping with the rest of the National Health Service, this means that no abuse of clinical or administrative staff is acceptable, whether verbal or physical and any patient behaving in this manner will be removed from the practice list with immediate effect. In some cases the police will be called.
