Meet the Team
Doctors
Dr D Andrew Howie
BSc (Med Sci), MBChB, MRCGP DCH
Dr Howie qualified from the University of St Andrews/ Manchester Medical School in 2001. He completed his GP training programme in Manchester and had further experience in Paediatrics and A&E before moving back to Scotland to complete his GP registrar training. Dr Howie joined the surgery shortly afterwards and became a partner in 2012. Dr Howie has a particular interest in Paediatrics having completed the Diploma in Child Health with the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health. He has also developed an interest in the management of Diabetes, as well as musculoskeletal medicine and can offer certain joint injections.
Outside of the practice Dr Howie is a GP Appraiser for NHS Lanarkshire. In his spare time, he enjoys watching rugby, playing golf and chasing after his young children.
Dr Jennifer A Chadwick
MBChB, MRCGP (2015 – 2020)
Dr Chadwick qualified from the University of Glasgow Medical School in 2009 and completed GP registrar training in 2015. After working in different practices as a locum and in the out-of-hours service, she joined North Avenue Surgery in 2016 and became a partner in 2018. Dr Chadwick has specific experience in psychiatry, emergency medicine, general medicine, general surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics and medicine for the elderly.
She enjoys hillwalking with her dog, horseriding and long distance running.
Dr Jayne MacNamara
Dr Nicola Donoghue
MBChB, MRCGP, DRCOG
Dr Donoghue qualified from the University of Glasgow in 2008 and completed her GP training within Lanarkshire in a mixture of specialties including A&E, paediatrics and obstetrics and gynaecology. She joined North Avenue Surgery in 2016 and became a partner in 2018. She has particular interests in family planning and women’s health. Out with the practice she is kept busy by her 3 young boys.
Dr Nina Singh
MBChB, DRCOG, MRCGP
Dr Singh graduated from Glasgow university medical school in 2009. She first started working as a locum GP in north Avenue Surgery in 2016 and became a partner in 2019. She has a diploma from the royal college of obstetrics and gynaecology as well as her GP qualifications.
Dr Singh lives with her husband, 2-year-old daughter and dog Chester and enjoys cooking, yoga and keeping fit.
Dr Ivan W H Loh
MBChB, MRCGP, MRCP, BSc(Hons)
GP Partner
Dr Loh qualified from the Queens University of Belfast and completed his GP training in 2010. He had spent a considerable amount of time in general medicine and is particularly interested in diabetes and endocrinology. He currently works as a GP Partner at North Avenue Surgery. During his free time, he enjoys cooking, walking his dog and playing the guitar.

Advanced Nurse Practitioners
Advanced Nurse Practitioners (ANPs) are Registered Nurses who have done extra training and academic qualifications to be able to examine, assess, make diagnoses, treat, prescribe and make referrals for patients who present with undiagnosed/undifferentiated problems.

Nurse Amy McGuire
Dip HE (Adult Nursing), BSc in Professional Development (Clinical Nursing), PGDip Advanced Practice Masters Level, Non-Medical Prescribing.
Nurse McGuire has been a registered nurse since 2003 and has worked as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner since 200. She is experienced in various extended roles, such as focused history taking, clinical assessment, diagnostic decision-making, investigations and care management.
She is a member of a running club and has recently completed 4 marathons; she enjoys cycling and socialising with family and friends. She has 2 young children that keep her busy.
Practice Nurse
Practice nurses plan and provide nursing care, treatment and health education to patients of all ages. This includes consultations for sexual health, chronic disease management, wound management and cervical smears.
Sister Louise Bisset
RGN, RM
Sister Bissette qualified in 1985 as Registered General Nurse from Glasgow Royal Infirmary. She worked there for 2 years before qualifying as a Registered Midwife at Bellshill Maternity in 1989 and continued to work as a midwife for approximately 12 years before securing a post as Practice Nurse at a rural surgery. She joined the North Avenue Surgery team 5 years ago

Pharmacists
Our pharmacists assist the clinical team in managing the prescriptions of our patients. They are available to discuss any medication issues and conduct telephone consultations should you wish to speak with them.

As well as administrative work and reception duties, our administrative staff have undergone additional training to become Patient Care Advisors (PCAs). This allows them to signpost patients to appropriate resources to help them see the right person at the right time for their problem.

North Avenue Surgery operates a ‘zero-tolerance’ policy towards aggressive or abusive behaviour. This includes any personal, abusive or threatening comments, bad language, physical contact and aggressive gestures. In keeping with the rest of the National Health Service, this means that no abuse of clinical or administrative staff is acceptable, whether verbal or physical and any patient behaving in this manner will be removed from the practice list with immediate effect. In some cases the police will be called.
